General Recruitment Information

The recruitment process for two year Academic Foundation Programmes commencing August 2018 opens in October. For more information, the UKFPO Applicant’s Handbook is available here: Academic/How to Apply section of the UKFPO website

Academic recruitment will be managed via the national online recruitment system (Oriel) and the basic timescale is detailed below. For the purposes of Academic Recruitment only, Peninsula and Severn Foundation Schools will be one Academic Unit of Application (known as South West) for August 2020 recruitment.


19 August 2019 UKFPO publish details of the AFP programme details to be available 
on  the Oriel application platform.
23 September 2019 Academic and general applicants register and enrol on Oriel
30 September - 11 October 2019 at 12:00 Complete national application form on Oriel, select maximum of 
two AUoAs and complete relevant local application forms or submit 
CVs (depending on local requirements)
14 October 2019 - 10 January 2020 Local Recruitment processes take place including shortlisting and interviewing

16 December 2019

Academic (Education & Leadership/Management) interviews: Plymouth

20 December 2019 Academic (Research) interviews: Bristol 
15 January 2020 Initial offers made
17 January 2020 Deadline for applicants to accept or reject initial offers
20 January - 12 February 2020 Cascade offers process takes place


* Please note that if you apply for both Education, Leadership/Management and Research based posts, and are shortlisted, you will be expected to attend both interview dates. We will not be offering Skype or telephone interviews.

If you apply for an Academic post for August 2019 and are unsuccessful (or do not accept an offer), you will automatically be entered into the main national recruitment round for general Foundation posts. If you have been successful and have accepted an Academic post, you will not be entered into the general recruitment round.
