Recruitment to two year Foundation Programmes August 2014: Stage 2

In the second stage of applications, applicants were asked to rank the 194 posts in the Peninsula in order of preference. Allocations were based on the combined application score.

Outcome for all trainees allocated to the Peninsula Foundation School

27% (52) of trainees secured their first choice post preference. 63% (122) secured a post that was in their top 10 and 72% (139) secured a post that was in their top 20. The least satisfied person got their 177th choice of 194 posts. The table below shows the outcomes of preferences since 2007 and chart 1 shows the distribution of preferences for all trainees in the Peninsula Foundation School.

27% (52/194) applicants in the Peninsula Foundation School are PMS students.
19% (10) of PMS students have secured their first choice preference. 69% (36) secured a post that was in their top 10 and 79% (41) in their top 20.

Compared with 2013 there are 15 fewer PMS students undertaking foundation training in the Peninsula this year. They represent 27% of total F1s which is the lowest it has ever been.

Plymouth Hospital NHS Trust and South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have the highest proportions (31%) and the highest number (16) of PMS students due to start in its August 2014 cohort. Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has the smallest number (2) and the smallest proportion of PMS students (4%). The table below shows the number of PMS trainees in each trust for 2014 compared with the distribution of the previous year’s cohorts.
