Recruitment to two year Foundation Programmes August 2015: Stage 2

In the second stage of applications, applicants were asked to rank the 191 posts in the Peninsula in order of preference. Allocations were based on the combined application score.

Outcome for all trainees allocated to the Peninsula Foundation School

27% (50) of trainees secured their first choice post preference. 58% (109) secured a post that was in their top 10 and 68% (128) secured a post that was in their top 20. The least satisfied person got their 166th choice of 191 posts. The table below shows the outcomes of preferences since 2007 and chart 1 shows the distribution of preferences for all trainees in the Peninsula Foundation School.

Outcome for Peninsula Medical School (PMS) students

24% (45/188) applicants in the Peninsula Foundation School are PMS students.

27% (12) of PMS students have secured their first choice preference. 62% (28) secured a post that was in their top 10 and 69% (31) in their top 20.

Compared with 2014 there are 7 fewer PMS students undertaking foundation training in the Peninsula this year. They represent 24% of total F1s which is the lowest it has ever been.

Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have the highest proportions (24%) and the highest number (11) of PMS students due to start in its August 2015 cohort. Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has the smallest number (3) and the smallest proportion of PMS students (7%). The table below shows the number of PMS trainees in each trust for 2015 compared with the distribution of the previous year’s cohorts.
